Can you imaging using a lot of addons in a 800x600 display, been able to see just a little part of the world on your screen? Why another similar games like GuildWars or Silkroad Online don't use addons as play enhancement? These and other questions made me doubt if we really need so many addons for play WoW.
I belong to GamingCR.com, one of the biggest gamer community in Costa Rica, and I posted a poll to see if everybody that plays World of Warcraft, think that add-ons are really necessary when playing this game.
So far, a highly percent agreed that Add-ons aren't necessary to play WoW per se, but they make your playing comfortable and the game experience enjoyable. This is because there are available a lot of Add-ons that only modify the UI, and allow you to modify it at your will. Also, for high-end content as dungeons, they really help you, like the famous decursive addon for mages.
It's funny because when I show the game to other people that doesn't know about the game, they think the game is so complicated, but as soon I make a brief description they see is not.
Probably you won't need the addons for playing... but you will want them you just because they are available. I think this is another reason why I love World of Warcraft.
