Quake 4 1v1 Tournament

September 1^st , 2007

The morning was sunny, and the air was fresh at Multiplaza Escazu, San Jose, Costa Rica. The GamingCR and Realidad Virtual staff were finishing all stuffs needed to recive the gamers who were to arrive.

During the morning, all the gamers started to arrive, ready to participate on one of the most important events in Costa Rica: Armageddon 2007. This tournament joined 32 Quake 4 players, to measure they strength, looking for the next 1vs1champion.

The tournament splited the players in 4 groups and started with one match per group in Free-for-All (FFA) mode, with the only intention to plant the players in the brackets. No one was eliminated... yet.

After FFA matches, every player had to play 1 elimination match. If anyone lose this match goes to the lower bracket. If not, the move to the next round. The lower match is the last opportunity to be alive in the tournament. In may case I went to the lower bracket and l loose against a good player, K_Ronte. That was the “Good-game” (GG) for me.

September 2^nd, 2007

Two round were needed to select the best 8 players of Quake 4. The Sunday was full of emotions and very tide scores. One of the semifinals to remember was between Keyro and xyGot. In the second match of the Best-of-Three (Bo3), at the end of the match, with score 12-13, xyGot could frag Keyro at the last second, forcing extend the match two minutes more. At the end this couldn’t help xyGot who lose the match and set and had to go to the lower bracket of the semifinals.

In the upper bracket final, Bloodwolf (Armageddon 2006 champion) and Keyro had a very emocionant fight, but the current champion sent Keyro to the lower bracket final (again against xyGot who won over Scila in the lower bracket semifinal). But the story was repeated and Keyro won over xyGot one again. The final… Bloodwolf vs Keyro.

This set was very measured by both players, and didn’t have much emotions because in both matches, the score was very clear. But the game play showed by both players had great level and demonstrated the great level of players in Costa Rica.

The event was on schedule and show great commitment by Costa Rican players that full fill the slots available and were present during all the event.
